Are you suffering in the workplace because of your religion?

On Behalf of | Sep 6, 2018 | Discrimination |

All employees in the United States have the right to be treated based on their ability to perform the job and role that they have been hired to do. Therefore, laws have been put in place to protect employees from many types of discrimination, including religious discrimination.

If you are applying for a job or are employed in a job, your religious views should never be used against you or be a reason for you to be treated unfairly in the workplace. If you believe that you have received discriminatory treatment because of your religious views in the state of California, it is important that you take action to assert your rights. You can do this by filing a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

What is the process of filing a complaint with the EEOC in California?

When you have reason to believe that you have experienced religious discrimination from your employer or prospective employer, you should file a charge with the EEOC within 180 days of the incident taking place. Within 10 days of you taking this action, you can expect that your employer will be notified of this charge made against them.

After you file a charge, an investigation will be carried out by the EEOC. They will determine whether they think that they have a cause to support your allegation.

It is important that you take action within 180 days of the discriminatory incident that you experienced. If you do not succeed in resolving the dispute with the EEOC, they will issue a letter that gives you a “right to sue”.
