Biography

Barbara A. Lawless has over 35 years of experience representing employees who have been discriminated against or wrongfully terminated from employment. Ms. Lawless graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1972 and was admitted to the California Bar that same year. Ms. Lawless immediately went into private practice representing plaintiffs in employment cases. Prior to law school, Ms. Lawless attended London School of Economics and obtained her Bachelors Degree from Marymount College. 

In 2004 and 2012, she was selected by The Recorder as one of the top plaintiff’s employment lawyers in the Bay Area. She was nominated for Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of California in 2002. 

She is a Past President of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and an emeritus   member of the Board of Consumer Attorneys of California. She formerly served on the Executive Committee of the California Employment Lawyers Association and is currently a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers. She has litigated hundreds of employment and civil rights cases and has achieved substantial verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients. Ms. Lawless frequently lectures and speaks on employment law matters and has written numerous articles for professional publications. Ms. Lawless has lectured for Continuing Education of the Bar, Consumer Attorneys of California, San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association, California Employment Lawyers Association, National Employment Lawyers Association, and the California State Bar Association. She is currently an active member of those associations. She is listed in the Best Lawyers in America, has been designated a Super Lawyer since 2005, and as one of the Top 50 Northern California Women Super Lawyers in 2011 and 2012 and 2014.  She is a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated attorney.
